foreignfire presents an evening of free improvisation, scores and wrestling. Yes WRESTLING. Movements of live wrestlers prompt a shifting vocal score for audience participation.

There will be a-cappella poetry chanted from inscrutable scrolls, and spontaneous works of voice and body featuring some of the Bay Area’s most adventurous vocal artists.

It’s all happening at the Dresher Ensemble Studio in West Oakland, on Thursday, March 28th at 8:00pm. Tickets available for purchase online at www.foreignfire.com.

Premiered last October at Studio Valencia in SF, absolute one combines live wrestling with open ended vocal performance in an art ritual of transformative encounter. The score, following in the tradition of such artists as Yoko Ono and Pauline Oliveros, is made of simple performance instructions printed on a set of cards. absolute one is the second in an unfolding series of participatory art rituals; the first piece in the series, THRESH, took place last May at the 14th Street Y in NYC.

Chanted a-cappella by four male voices, directly from the vinyl scrolls, unsolicited combines dense streamy poetry with pseudoritual and bookart to conquer a moment for unchecked possibility.
foreignfire is a San Francisco-based performance group offering voice centered improvisations and scores. Recent appearances include Studio Venezia (2017 Venice Biennale) and Tectonics Festival Tel-Aviv.
