About the Artists
Laura Klein (pianist/composer) classically trained but deeply steeped in the jazz tradition, has been influenced by the writing of Thelonius Monk, Wayne Shorter, Fred Hersch and Joanne Brackeen. She has recorded her own compositions with FivePlay Jazz Quintet, Triceratops, and vibraphonist Ted Wolff. Laura has appeared with her trio at numerous venues including SF Jazz and Piedmont Piano Company, and was featured on KCSM’s “In the Moment” and “Desert Island Jazz”. She co-leads FivePlay Jazz Quintet, and leads a busy performing schedule appearing with numerous Bay Area luminaries.

He has performed with many artists including Gary Burton, James Moody, Mark Murphy, Bob Sheppard, Paul McCandles, Norma Winstone, Larry Coryell, Darol Anger, Regina Carter, Kurt Elling, Boz Scaggs, and others. Jason is an Origin Records recording artist, and can be heard on PBS and movie soundtracks.

Shimpei Ogawa (bass) came to the Bay Area from Japan to study at the California Jazz Conservatory, and while still in school, has already made his mark upon the jazz scene with his remarkable playing. He has performed with many musicians locally, including FivePlay Jazz Quintet, Terence Brewer, Dan Neville, and many others.
