Naomi Moon Siegel – “a trombonist and composer of great style and distinction” (Earshot Jazz) – presents her original music in celebration of her new release Live At Earshot on Slow & Steady Records. A winner of an Earshot Jazz Golden Ear Award, her expressive trombone playing is changing the way the trombone is heard and viewed. Fusing folk melodies with fantastical soundscapes and tight grooves, her music is both introspective and celebratory, intimate and full. “Her uncommonly appealing writing has a subtle emotional depth that engages across genres and projects a rich, spacious sound." (AllAboutJazz) For her Octopus show, she will be joined by Christina Galisatus, Michael Mitchell + more TBA.

A multifarious duo created by two of the Bay Area’s most creative young jazz musicians, Rice Kings channel original electronic jazz directly from the future. Keyboardist and self-described nerd Erika Oba, a Berkeley High alum and Oberlin Conservatory grad, is a rising force on the Bay Area jazz scene who thrives in stylistically diverse settings. Eli Maliwan, a product of Cal Arts, is a highly expressive saxophonist and vocalist who focuses on the EWI (electronic wind instrument) in Rice Kings. Together they create wildly imaginative Asian-American queer anthems that celebrate minorities of gender, race and sexuality.
