Thomas Dimuzio will be playing a Buchla modular synthesizer for this performance. The Buchla is a unique electronic musical instrument born in the mid-1960's in Berkeley, CA. The legacy of inventor and sonic visionary Don Buchla lives on in modern re-creations of his classic modular systems. Among traditional oscillators, filters and envelopes, Dimuzio integrates four FM radios into his Buchla 200e which allows the artist to sample and process wild sound sources snatched right out of thin air. Dimuzio further captures and loops the output of his instrument to build rich and dynamic textures comprising, compelling and complex real-time compositions.
Thomas Dimuzio is a musician, composer, improviser, sound designer, mastering engineer, label proprietor, and music technologist residing in San Francisco, California. Among his collaborators are Chris Cutler, Dan Burke, Joseph Hammer, Alan Courtis, Nick Didkovsky, Due Process, Voice of Eye, Fred Frith, David Lee Myers, Alaric, ISIS, 5uu's, Matmos, Wobbly and Negativland. Recent performances include AngelicA Festival Internazionale di Musica, San Francisco Electronic Music Festival, CCRMA at Stanford, Recombinant Media Labs Buchla Memorial, and Ende Tymes Festival of Experimental Art and Liberation. Dimuzio also hosted KPFA’s Frequency Modulation Radio which featured live on-air performances of sonic practitioners exploring the fringes of music.
