Hearts & Minds,
Lisa Mezzacappa Tangle Trio
Called a “singularly original unit,” Hearts & Minds combines brash fluidity, lyricism and emphatic grooves into a sonic universe Sun Ra would smile on from above.
Hearts & Minds is a collective conceived by long-time collaborators Jason Stein (bass clarinet) and Paul Giallorenzo (synthesizer/e piano), joined by drummer Chad Taylor. The trio has two critically-acclaimed releases on the Austin-based Astral
Spirits record label.
“An unbound sonic expedition that also digs in, exuding an earthy rhythmic gusto.” - Nate Chinen, WBGO Take Five
“Stein, Giallorenzo and Taylor are all seasoned veterans of lengthy tours, one-off encounters and extended residential engagements. They’ve each established a personal and flexible voice on their respective instruments. This is the sound of a group that’s grown into its potential.” - Bill Meyer, Dusted
“If you're thinking Sun Ra, you'd be correct.” - Mark Corroto, All About Jazz
“...scans as free-jazz, yet the deeper it goes, the more industrial it becomes.” - Marcus J. Moore, Bandcamp Daily’s Essential Releases of the Week
