Tender Buttons
(Tania Chen, piano, Gino Robair & Tom Djll, analog electronics)
and
Tim Perkis + Madalyn Merkey
(improvising digital electronics duo)

Tender Buttons is Tania Caroline Chen (piano), Gino Robair (modular synthesizer), and Tom Djll (modular synthesizer and circuit-bent instruments). "Their sound occupies a post-New York School sound-space, very much in the spirit of Cage, Feldman, and Wolff." Yeah. The difference is that Cage et al are all about the erasure of ego/meaning, and Tender Buttons' improvisation is about finding meaning in the moment. And awesome sounds...

The duo of Tim Perkis and Madalyn Merkey promises to be a real treat. Both participants start with an elemental approach to digital electronics, Perkis using vintage FM synthesizers and Merkey building elaborate compounds of simple sine tones. Tim has been one of my favorite players for years (decades!) now -- always reacting to the moment in the most appropriate way, and I think/hope his approach will meld with Madalyn's more analytic ethos (which I also love!) in a way unlike what we've heard from either of them before.
