Performance by
Laetitia SonamiIn response to Lydia Ourahmane's exhibition at Wattis, sound artist
Laetitia Sonami presents a performance that activates empty space.
Sonami's sound performances, live film collaborations and sound installations focus on issues of presence and participation. Building and designing her own instruments, such as the acclaimed lady's glove, has led her to develop a rich body of work that merges new technologies with sound. For her performance at the Wattis, Sonami uses the Spring Spyre, an instrument that applies neural networks to real-time audio synthesis to learn from and respond to Ourahmane's audio based works.
Sonami is a guest professor in the Music department at Mills College and the Milton Avery MFA program at Bard College.
