Previews live and recorded coming this week.

This coming Thursday night, May 28th, from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM on Friday morning, I will be performing the complete eight hour solo guitar piece Eight Hours 'Round Midnight for the first time since 2007.
EHRM is part performance art, part Jazz Improv, and part outsider Jewishmusic. It was commissioned by David Katznelson in 2004; he is co-producing the event that will host it this year, DAWN 2020. This is a virtual all-night observance of the Jewish holiday Shavuot, on which staying up all night and studying is a holy tradition.
For people who like to read books, drink coffee and stay up very late, this holiday is one of the best days of the year.

Many people are participating in this event, with readings, discussions, performances, in separate "rooms", including Carl Reiner! Norman Lear! A guy from Los Lobos! A guy from
The Flaming Lips, who is collaborating with Scott Amendola.
EHRM will be live streamed from my garage, and a small group of
invited people will hear parts of the piece in person, two or three
at a time.

This piece brings together many interests of mine: oral epic story-telling/singing, large-scale harmonic structures, Jewish traditions of interpretation and commentary, and of course Thelonious Monk.
