Fuzzybunny, Saint of Killers. Lords of Outland
FUZZYBUNNY is an electronic improvisation ensemble, consisting of
Chris Brown, Scot Gresham-Lancaster and
Tim Perkis. All three of them were members of The Hub, the legendary computer network band. FUZZYBUNNY is their latest project, which consists of high-energy, dense live improvisation and composition, using an assortment of homebuilt electronic and software-based instruments. The music is all-out "carnallectual" electronic improv, rockyroaded with pop-music fragments and sonic gags, defining some kind of new style difficult to describe.
Edwin Pouncey in The Wire called them "a total meltdown of the senses" and "a trio of smartarses with nothing to say." Their first CD is available on the French label SONORE (www.sonore.com); for more info and mp3 samples see
FuzzybunnySAINT OF KILLERS ia a scary little trio that has been thrilling and terrifying audiences in the bay area for close to a year. It's difficult to classify these three dynamos even within the "experimental scene". Some have made comparisons to the group Fantomas as they create thick dense clusters of chaos, incorporating the spirit of sonic exploration with an attitude. The group was founded by guitarist Alwyn Quebido who through a trial and error process of live experiments at his past series Carnival Ad Nauseam during most of 2001, found what he was looking for. Drummer Tyler Cox also from The Mass, drives the group at times into a relentless frenzy sure to wipe a smile from anyone's face. To top off the group sound is vocalist Jesse Quatro. Her cathartic vocals mix operatic flurries with primal gut wrenching forays into unknown sound scapes.
LORDS OF OUTLAND: Albert Ayler, Eric Dolphy, Thomas Chapin, and John Zorn all have had profound effects on Romus’ vision. This legacy which is now over forty years old, contributes to the vast array of
Rent Romus’ compositions. Inspiration is drawn from the collective mind of the ensembles in conjunction with the desire to call upon a basic gut feeling as opposed to just simply entertain. The music attempts to leave the listener with something to take with them. The compositions performed by the Lords of Outland follow a gut level groove, building upon a structure
while utilizing free association improv. In short, Romus takes his patent B.I.A.C.S. (bull in a china shop) approach to improvisation.
