Southern Exposure and the Taneen Working Group present public performances by Thea Farhadian on violin and interactive electronics in collaboration with Silvia Matheus and Sahba Aminikia with Adrienne Shamszad.

Live improvisational and collaborative performances to support community organization and relief as part of a series exploring the ongoing Iranian feminist revolutionary movement.

Sahba Aminikia’s musical pieces have been widely performed in the US, Canada, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Ecuador, France, Italy, Poland, China, Greece, Turkey ,and Israel and at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Le Poisson Rouge, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, SF Exploratorium, SFJAZZ, and Saint Anne's Warehouse. Aminikia’s compositions have been commissioned by theatre troops, contemporary classical ensembles, film scores, Persian traditional music groups as well as jazz bands including Kronos Quartet, Brooklyn Youth Chorus, Symphony Parnassus, San Francisco Conservatory of Music New Music Ensemble, Mobius Trio, Delphi Trio, and Living Earth Show. Aminikia was the artist-in-residence at Kronos Festival 2017 at SFJAZZ where ten of his works were performed. Sahba is the founder and the artistic director of the Flying Carpet Children Festival which occurs yearly in the city of Mardin, Turkey, near the border of Syria, serving more than 5000 children suffering from the trauma of the war of Syrian, Iraqi, Kurdish, and Turkish origin.

Thea Farhadian is a performer/composer whose projects include solo violin and interactive electronics, acoustic improvisation, solo laptop, radio art, and video. Her work has been seen internationally at venues which include the Issue Project Room, and Alternative Museum New York City, Galerie Mario Mazolli, Sowieso, and Quiet Cue in Berlin, the Room Series, and Meridian Gallery in San Francisco, the Center for Experimental Art and the Aram Kachaturyan Museum in Yerevan, Armenia, International Women's Electroacoustic Listening Room Project at Bimhaus in Amsterdam.

Silvia Matheus is a Brazilian electronic music composer with a focus on interactive improvisation with computers, electronics, and instrumental ensemble. She has composed music for multi-media projects, video, film, audio installations and radio plays. Her compositions have been presented at the prestigious International Computer Music Conference (ICMC): Hong Kong, China (1997); Banff, Canada; Tokyo, Japan; Havana, Cuba (2001); Copenhagen, Denmark (2007) and New York, USA (2010), and at Inter Society of Electronic Arts (ISEA) at the Art Institute of Chicago.

An Oakland, California native of Iranian heritage, Adrienne Shamszad has performed with beloved and renowned artists such as Kitka, David Wilcox, SOVÓSO, Coleman Barks, and Mahsa Vahdat. She has been in productions by groups such as The Berkeley Repertory Theater, Golden Thread Productions, and Diaspora Arts Connection.
