On Wednesday, July 10 at 8:00pm, Tom's Place presents

Paul Sakai (drums), Nathan Chamberlain (guitar), Tim Duff (double bass)
Moe! Staiano (solo percussion)

Hello, everybody! Tom's Place is proud to present a summer evening with four great performers. We'll start off with a solo set from master drummer Moe Staiano, and finish up with the trio of Nathan Chamberlain (guitar), Paul Sakai (drums) and Tim Duff (standup bass). Paul and Nathan met in the Bay Area, where they recorded their well-recieved album When We Gathered by the Sea, before dispersing to Atlanta and New York. Tonight Tim Duff joins them for some trio excitement.

Nathan Chamberlain (he/him) is a Coahuiltecan guitarist, curator, and composer who is based out of Brooklyn, NY. Chamberlain's work actively engages the decolonization of jazz and improvised music, joining a tradition rooted in resistance towards white supremacy.

Paul Sakai is a Yonsei, Japanese American drummer and improviser based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Born in Berkeley, CA and raised as a part of the international community in South East Asia, his music focuses on place, self, family and cultural history.

Tim Duff is a double bassist who is known to produce acceptable sounds from his instrument on occasion.

Moe Staiano is a musician and composer of new music works and angular rock music. Since 1995, he has been at the forefront of the Bay Area improvisation scene, playing drums and percussion through innovative solo shows that can feature prepared drum kit with found objects. All this is woven in with a performance art aspect that gets the audience involved and wondering what might happen next. He will play (or smash into pieces) just about anything he can get his hands on, and somehow make a compelling musical statement out of it.

COVID still hasn't gone away, so we have to make some accomodations to it. Seating will be strictly limited -- we may have to turn you away if we fill our (reduced) capacity. You must be vaccinated against COVID, and you must wear a mask while on the premises. We won't have any snacks, because it seems to me like that's incompatible with masking.
