On Wednesday, May 14 at 8:00pm, Tom's Place presents
Scott Looney (solo piano)
T J Borden (cello) + Nathan Corder (guitar, electronics) +
Dave DeFilippo (electronics)
On Wednesday, May 14 at 8:00 PM we will have an evening of boundary-pushing sound featuring pianist
Scott R. Looney, and a dynamic trio set with Nathan Corder, T.J. Borden, and
Dave DeFilippo.
We're especially happy to have Scott to do a solo piano set. He hasn't been playing out much lately, but we have coaxed him out for this evening. As you doubtless know, he transforms the piano into a dynamic, exploratory instrument using extended techniques and electronics. His performances are immersive, blending structure and spontaneity in ways that challenge and delight listeners.
T.J. Borden is visiting from New York, and will be playing in a trio with Nathan Corder and
Dave DeFilippo. Borden is a fearless cellist who pushes the boundaries of his instrument, combining classical technique with raw, physical energy.
Here's video of him, solo, at Gold Lion Arts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJ0787T8Wcc
Guitarist/composer Nathan Corder bridges the acoustic and electronic, crafting compositions and improvisations that explore texture, noise, and spatial relationships.
Dave DeFilippo adds a deep conceptual dimension, bringing a scientific and improvisational mindset to synthesis and real-time systems.
It will be a dynamic evening, hosted by Tim Duff in Susan and Tom's absence. (We're still on the east coast visiting the grandchidren -- back in Berkeley in July).
