The Glenn Glasow Fellowship Concert is CSU East Bay's annual celebration of new music by student composers and producers, supported by the Glenn Glasow and Yoshiko Kakudo Endowment in the Music Department. Established in 2003 to honor the memory of Dr. Glasow, this concert is a cornerstone of our composition area and a vibrant showcase of original work.
This year’s concert features premieres of five new compositions created in collaboration with guest performers Monica Chew (piano), Stuart Langsam (percussion), and Chelsea Hollow (soprano), who began working with our students in early March. Additional highlights include music and visual art created in response to 20th-century masterworks studied in our Composition Workshop course, with artwork by music minor David Mao and a musical response to Babbitt's Philomel by graduating senior Tani Nagaoka.
Music Production students Justin Kwan and Cheno Nguyen will each present two electronic tracks, reflecting the creative diversity of our department. The program culminates in a large-scale collaboration led by Glenn Glasow Fellowship recipient Patricio Castellon-Serrato, featuring student performers and composers. Our second Fellowship recipient, Julian Garcia, will present four original works, including three pieces for the guest ensemble and one in collaboration with CSU East Bay faculty guitarist Mark Teicholz.
Join us for this exciting evening of adventurous new music, interdisciplinary creativity, and community celebration. A reception will follow the performance, offering the audience an opportunity to meet and mingle with the artists.
