Join us for our first Open Access event of 2026, featuring 2024 Music & Composition Fellows and current artists-in-residence, Brendan Glasson and Sally Decker as they present Mirrored Variation, a work-in-progress performance. Coming just days after their arrival for their second residency, this offering provides a glimpse into their creative process at an early stage. Audience feedback and engagement will help shape the project's evolution.
Taking place inside Montalvo’s historic Villa’s Main Hall, the duo will use a grand piano, electric organs, and synthesizers in a four-channel immersive sound experience to explore themes of independence, connection, and interdependence. Mirrored Variation explores the dynamic of seeing oneself in another, as well as understanding one’s own individuality, through patient musical movements and shifting instrumental relationships. Audience members will be invited to sit in the round, encircling the performers, to experience the spatial dimensions of the piece.
Following the performance, there will be an informal gathering and conversations with the artists.
Cost: $10
