Kamran Shafii (Persian: کامران شفیعی)
Kamran is an Iranian sound artist working in the field of electroacoustic music. His recent work is characterized by its concern with anthropogenic sound and complex auditory experiences, drawing from his interest in psychoacoustics and acousmatic theory.
A primary focus of his practice is the study of acoustic ecologies through measurement devices and piezoelectric accelerometers, asking how infrastructure, distributed systems, and physical matter produce emergent, site-specific sounds with shifting morphologies.
Shafii has produced multichannel installations and performed internationally alongside artists including Lea Bertucci, Kevin Drumm, RM Francis, Daniel Menche, and Marcus Schmickler.
This re:sound performance integrates multi-channel field recordings of distributed infrastructure with specialized measurement devices, channeling mechanical stress and structural vibration to reveal non-human, virulent acoustic topologies of subterranean systems.

Zachary James WatkinsPremiering an electroacoustic duo that builds on the Black Triad project and Exciting States of Opposition III with vocalist Lisa E. Harris. Zachary (electronics) and Jamael (bassoon) will explore the resonant frequencies of Building 34 as part of a long-running investigation of the multiplicity of the term resonance in human relations and in acoustics, especially as it relates to histories of struggle and resilience.
Jamael Smith is a San Francisco-based bassoonist and educator. A dedicated performer of contemporary and chamber music, they are a member of the San Francisco Contemporary Players and Eco Ensemble. As a chamber musician, they perform as a member of Quinteto Latino and the Avenue Winds. They also serve as a core member of the conductorless chamber orchestra One Found Sound, and perform frequently with the San Francisco Symphony.
A passionate educator, Smith serves as the Director of Wind Chamber Music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the instructor of bassoon at San Jose State University.

Zachary James WatkinsI am a mixed-race African American Oakland-based composer, musician, engineer and educator. He grew up in Lubbock, Texas and have lived in Oakland the past 20 years, originally moving here to attend Mills College where I earned an MFA in Electronic Music and Recording Media. I cherish the Bay. This is my home and a large part of who I am. I currently perform solo as well as with various formations (Watkins / Peacock, Foreign / Domestic). Early ensembles include the Pink Canoes (2004–2008), featuring Ava Mendoza, Travis Johns, Noah Philips and Aram Shelton, as well as my duo Black Spirituals with drummer Marshall Trammell.
As a composer, I have been very fortunate to compose multiple compositions for the Kronos Quartet and am currently writing new works for other respected Bay Area ensembles. During my 2015 Headlands Center for the Arts residency, I explored the surrounding bunker acoustics and created works around observed resident frequencies. The Bay inspires and challenges. The art and specifically the music communities are rich and deep!
