~ Yehudit -
Bill Noertker Duo
Violinist Yehudit (pronounced "yeah who DEET") is making a place for herself in the forefront of the jazz mainstream, demonstrating that the electric violin, in Yehudit's hands, is a convincing and innovative jazz instrument. A classically trained player with a solid grounding in the jazz idiom, her extensive professional experience encompasses ensembles as diverse as the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra and the jazz/blues band John Handy with Class. Performing on a five-string, all-electric violin, she produces a varied sonic palette, ranging from boppish licks and wails to warm, singing melody. Her music is firmly rooted in straight-ahead jazz, spiced with blues, free improvisation, and a dash of funk.
Bassist Bill Noerkter composes music that is collaborative and interpretive, usually containing melodic cell structures which act as springboards to sections of improvisation. While in more traditional forms of jazz, improvisation occurs over a chord structure, Noertker prefers the improvisation to be based on the melodic theme. This creates more interplay between the musicians and allows for the compositions to be fluid and open-ended. Because of the interpretive nature of Noertker's compositions, they are never performed twice in exactly the same way.
~ Unwoman -
After studying performance and composition for ten years, Unwoman, aka EricaMulkey, earned a BA in music (emphasis on cello) and minored in electronic music at UC Santa Cruz. In early 2002 she released her debut album to much critical acclaim, after establishing her own record label, Unmediated Productions [www.unmediated.net]. She performs live in the SF area often, and is currently working on new music and remixes. She likes to describe her music as dark electro-acoustic with an experimental edge.
~ LX RUDIS -
'Born here in SF.
Mom was a jazz pianist/singer. Dad was in charge of sets for local ABC TV affiliate and also managed set construction for Monterey Jazz Festival. Grew up with all sorts of weird artist types hanging around the house and sometimes cooling my jets on set at KGO-TV. I rebelled from both parents and spent most of my early adolescence sk8boarding and riding bicycles. Discovered synthesizers and mad e my first bad decision: I would become an Electronic Musician. Parents were supportive but wary.' - LX
