Experiments in Klezmer Music:

Abstract


Utilizing saxophones, accordion, clarinet, drums, and synthesizer, M. Perlmutter, K. Schwartz, and H. Brenman manipulated Klezmer (traditional Yiddish instrumental) music and exposed it to n participants free of charge at a San Francisco Café (Café du Louvre, Clement St. at 12th Avenue) on Sunday January 19th, 2003 from the hours of 1-3 pm. Participants were observed to noticeably enjoy the music sample (p < .05). At times the effect was large enough to elicit rythmic clapping during select songs (p < .05), and arythmic clapping for extended durations post song exposure (p < .01).
