CCM SONGLINES SERIES
Mills College and the Italian Cultural Institute present:
HOMMAGE to GIUSEPPE CHIARI
An evening of works by the Italian "Fluxus" composer GIUSEPPE
CHIARI performed by Alvin Curran, Gisella Frontero, Luciano
Chessa, Heather Heise, and Miguel Galperin. Featured works
include "Intervalli e Do" and "Gesti sul Piano" for solo
piano, and performance pieces "Rompere", "Canterellare", and
"La Mano Mangia il Foglio." Giuseppe Chiari was born in
Florence in 1926. After studying engineering at the
University of Florence, Chiari dedicated himself in 1950 to
music composition and in 1962 became a member of the New York
"Fluxus" movement. Characterized by a strongly Dadaist
attitude, "Fluxus" artists promoted artistic experimentation
mixed with social and political activism (prominent Fluxus of
the time included Nam June Paik, Alison Knowles, Dick
Higgins, and Yoko Ono). Mr. Chiari's works have been
presented as part of Gruppo '70, the Centre de Musique in
Paris, Museum XX Jahrhunderts in Vienna, and the Film und
Fersehen Akademie in Berlin. Many thanks to the Italian
Cultural Institute in San Francisco for co-presenting this
concert.
