Join the Circle - Singing for Your Life
Circlesinging Workshops Start Wednesday July 16
Arts First Oakland, in collaboration with First Congregational Church of Oakland, Shambhala Booksellers, and Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church, invites you to a series of six monthly Circlesinging workshops, beginning in July and culminating with a return engagement of last year's popular New Year's Ritual Circlesong "Singing For Your Life"
Circlesinging is a vocal improvisation technique in which a circle of singers takes melodic and rhythmic cues (parts) from a skilled leader, together creating songs unique to the moment. As the leader cues out old parts and introduces new ones, the song continues and changes without stopping, at times supporting individual solos, always grounded in attentive listening. Participants are welcome at any level of singing experience. Space is limited – advance registration recommended.
David Worm of SoVoSó will be leading us at our July and August sessions.
