"...Forceful, immediate, inventive." - Signal to Noise
Poet, writer, philosopher and musician, Jim Ryan is an original member of the exploratory family of artists of the 20th century. His powerful playing style and truly original voice permeates the San Francisco Bay Area with vibrant spirit. In Forward Energy music you hear honest, detailed, and sometimes extreme articulations of the raw life force. Ryan says he is compelled to make such music because he “just wants to live.” Moving ahead on that impulse with courage and creativity can be an act of beautiful sedition, opening us as listeners to new path and possibilities in our own lives.

The Left Coast Improv Group -- Ernesto Diaz-Infante guitar, Ron Heglin trombone, Jeff Hobbs cornet/clarinet/sax/violin, Scott R. Looney electronics, Bob Marsh cello/voice, Jim Ryan flute/amped kilimba

In the spirit of Bay Area artistic experimentation and exploration, THE LEFT COAST IMPROV GROUP has crystalized from divergent musical and geographic backgrounds to form a unit of unprecedented talent. Its members are products of deep dedication, long study (both in and outside of academia), and many years of performance experience.“Each track has its strengths and the album works beautifully as a whole. It absorbs the listener gently, never imposing its views. The group gels together marvelously.”
