Called "the leading bassist among the avant-garde" by Down Beat, Parker has left an indelible stamp on creative music as the leader of his own groups, as a sideman with the likes of Cecil Taylor and David S. Ware, and as co-founder/artistic director of New York's annual Vision Festival. No generation gap here: The performers might range in age from 28 to 80, but they are all on the cutting edge of 21st-century jazz improvisation.
