Bay Area saxophonist Ron Stallings created his mixed media piece "A Context for Peace" within the time-honored tradition of artist as social spokesperson. Stallings draws from his deep community of committed and passionate Bay Area musicians and poets for an evening of jazz works and spoken word, all dedicated to creating a vision, and a context, for peace. He originally presented this piece at Berkeley's La Peña Cultural Center last December.
For this performance at the Stanford Jazz Festival, Stallings is joined by: John Santos (percussion), Wayne Wallace (trombone), John Calloway (flute), Steve Sentf-Herrero (bass), Dezon Clairborne (drums), Melecio Magdaluyo (woodwinds), Murry Lowe (piano), Steve Campos (trumpet), Bamuthi Joseph (spoken word), Tim’m West (spoken word)
