set 1 Ches Smith, Josh Smith, Kurt Kotheimer Trio-----------and-------------
set 2 "fun and games"---------------- a SF/NYC based quartet

This concert features music from two musicians who are new to the Bay area, the recent east to west coast transplants saxophonist Joshua Smith and bassist Kurt Kotheimer.
They will be joined by local favorite, drummer Ches Smith for a trio set to start the show...

Followed by the band "fun and games" --- a quartet with Brooklyn, NY based musicians, drummer Dave Treut and guitarist Mike Gamble, along with SF nubies Smith and Kotheimer. Dave and Mike are both mainstays on the young creative music scene in NYC...
These individuals have shared the stage with many known players in forward thinking jazz.

Tim Berne, Cuong Vu (trumpter for the Pat Metheny Group), Chris Jonas,
Assif Tsahar, Trevor Dunn, Joe Maneri, Chris Speed,
Nate Wooley, Happy Apple, David King (of the Bad Plus), etc.

Josh has performed around the U.S. for the past 6 years with his band, birth. (www.birthsound.com) who played in town last year at ye olde Tuva space with Carla Khilsteadt, Shahzad Ismaily, and Colin Stetson.

The music on Wednesday night will traverse pure improvisation and the smattering of discernible influences that unintentionally creep into the music along with some extremely malleable composition.
