The Jazz House presents...

MINGUS, DOLPHY: A TRIBUTE

Our Coltrane tribute had such an amazing response with incredible audience response, we thought we’d do it all over again! This time we're choosing to honor two more jazz greats - Charles Mingus, and Eric Dolphy. The Jazz House presents saxophone extraordinaire Howard Wiley in a quartet, in the round, surrounded by visual art, and inspiring the creation of a live visual art piece.

This truly unique event will capture the ears and eyes, as an amazing jazz quartet plays Mingus & Dolphy tunes, and a visual artist creates a piece in the spirit of the evening. Come and get in to the out side.

Leading the Eveing:

Howard Wiley: Bay Area born saxophonist Howard Wiley is often the first call for the saxophone chair whether it's playing an "out", avant garde style, or swinging to the beat of 40's bop. Wiley is a very accomplished player who has produced two very successful c.d.'s and is currently in the studio working on his third.

Antjuan Oden: He paints on found objects, using paper and wood, large pieces and small. Employing mainly acrylics, he will also incorporate ink and chalk into his paintings. Symbols are found in his work, and Antjuan will often write on his art. He is constantly painting or writing, and is always experimenting with media and ideas. "I have to express myself, it's constant, and it's always coming out of me.”
