Toyon Meadow
Mills College 5000 MacArthur Boulevard Oakland

A Site Specific, Outdoor Comprovisation by Jon Raskin
Toyon Meadow, Mills College, Oakland CA.
Admission: Free

The intent of this comprovisation is to explore the acoustics and sonic
properties of Toyon Meadows on the campus of Mills College in Oakland
California. Some of the primary concerns of this work are finding and
utilizing the way sound travels, how it is absorbed or reflected, to
incorporate the ambient sounds of all kinds and use visual elements of the
area to inform the musical choices by the performers Another aspect is
making music over a large area with no central vantage point to listen from.
The movement of musical material between the musicians and through the
performance area is a major element of the work. There is no central
listening area and the audience is free to move around the area listening to
what interests them.
