American Masters

$20 General $15 Students/Seniors

The Left Coast Chamber Ensemble is a versatile group of twelve musicians that performs in different combinations. In addition to its regular season at Green Room in San Francisco and 142 Throckmorton Theatre in Mill Valley, the ensemble has performed special concerts for other presenters such as the Other Minds Festival, Stanford University, and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.

Left Coast presents chamber music new and old. Concerts feature new music by composers such as Mario Davidovsky, Joan Tower, Donald Erb, as well as compositions by Left Coast's own Kurt Rohde (Artistic Director, violist) and Eric Zivian (pianist). Programs also include important chamber works from previous centuries by composers including John Dowland, Johannes Brahms, Ludwig van Beethoven, Aaron Copland, and Igor Stravinsky.

This evening is the first of the new season entitled American Masters, a program, according to Mr. Rohde, “designed to feature the exceptional output of American composers, past and present. John Adams Road Movies is included to coincide with the SF Opera's premiere of his new opera, Doctor Atomic. The hauntingly beautiful Largo by Charles Ives and Crumb's mesmerizing Eleven Echoes of Autumn are set in relief to Copland's lyric and energetic Duo for Flute and Piano and Bernstein's jazzy Clarinet Sonata.”
