Mummers (Eype)
If your ears discern a collection of subtle organic tones, hatched by an onslaught of earthworms crawling under moist soil, or robotic industrial marches modulated by 25th-century electronic circuits and big-band wrecking ballsthat is the sound of Mummers (Eype) slithering through the cement. Often riddled by ongoing evolution and fluctuation within its line-up, they've become an aberration of eccentricities, in which random nuances and abrasive overtones contribute to the many aspects of their primary unit. It is perpetuated by the fundamental repercussions of urban existence, and like any living organism, it's just a process of life and death. This particular organism was rooted within the bowels of downtown Los Angeles; where Mummers emerged in early 2001. Its inauguration, fueled by arguments and headaches, stemmed from a massive intake of liquid coffee beans and bus fumes. With this, they etched a double-sided mirror of hand-made CDRs through their Autometrik imprint. Beginning as a two-piece electronics and synthesizer duo, they quickly found interest amidst fellow escape artists in the area, thus adding several new elements and members to their line-up. Since then, it's been a constant, evolving cast of creatures and mutants, bringing amorphous background textures and living sound sculptures to life; all of this, in an attempt to feel out their daily interactions within the ongrowing concern of urban combat. Since late 2002, Loachfillet has uprooted from Los Angeles, and carried the (Eype) seed to San Francisco and Chicago, finally planting it in the expansive sprawl of West Oakland, where another breed of incessant industrial sounds terrorize the mind and manifest into new elements of repercussion. In july, Mummers (Eype) will be joined by its crew from here and there, and now and then.
Commode Minstrels in Bullface
There are many Commode Minstrel movies including Book of Kills, Crud Box, Remarmalador, Operation: Jollycrodderganger and Mexican Dog Fight.
Upcoming movies in the works are The Madness of Neuronbeurg and Have Faith in Chris Talon. The live shows are a time-stream encompassing music of the past (covering some songs from 78 recordings), to modern film music, to future astro chromeskins wandering sun cores. The sounds are thrown together from a hodge-podge of flesh gobs from 33rd-century instruments.
The costumes fall short of the Laser Gunmen from Pancho Villas Allied Panzer Kids, approaching a beeping sheep farm, construction paper guns drawn, under the tyrannical revolution of the marzipan clock hands. If you can imagine Evil Dead II playing with some spaghetti-western music and a grafted brain from the year 3000 conducting finger lightning then this is your ideal show!
Commode Minstrels in Bullface erupted in the year 1994 with a recording for RRR's "America the Beautiful" compilation. Three seven-inch singles were released: "Theme from Blood Feast," "The Turd Man Theme," and one with musician William Winant, "Mary Neal Fumbling with the Collapsed Corpse of the Universe/Failed Heroes." The Lp "Forbidden Picnic" includes a poster and three pages of the movie that was never made to go along with the vinyl (due to budget constraints). The Cdr/78 release "Synthspysizer" was the last major release by the band in 2002; also featured on the compilations "Wigs on Fire" and "Clit Stop."
