Ben Riley never missed a beat stepping into the drum chair of Thelonious Monk’s Quartet in the mid ’60s. Today his piano-less septet honors Monk’s unique compositions. Pianist Geri Allen pays tribute to the groundbreaking composer Mary Lou Williams, with a performance of Williams’ masterpiece, “The Zodiac Suite.”
