The Amsterdam-based group is a blend of European improvised music, jazz music and the Dutch irreverent attitude, in general, which all combine into a highly sophisticated yet enjoyable music that has astonished and impressed music lovers for several decades. ICP Orchestra recorded relatively little, but achieved international acclaim for its sophisticated improvisations, ingenious interpretations of landmark composers such as Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk and for the band members' extraordinary level of musicianship. Dutch pianist Misha Mengelberg, the spiritual father of European jazz improvisation is the founder of ICP Orchestra. He performs with a wonderful sense of humor, in a style closer to Thelonious Monk than Bill Evans and is one of the most influential of surviving European jazz greats, though he rarely plays in France. They return to Yoshi's for an exciting night of improv and songs from prior recorded music.
