Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club

A conceptual club with Anne Colvin and guests, presents:

Fred Frith and The Music Improvisation Ensemble

with excerpts from the film Surface and Time - Heike Liss and Fred Frith
Tuesday, March 3
Doors 6pm / Film 7-8pm / Performance 8pm
Tickets at the door: $10 general, $8 members, $5 students

Experimental musician and composer Fred Frith performs with the 13-member Music Improvisation Ensemble (voice, electronics, double bass, saxophone, and wind instruments). Composer, improviser, and multi-instrumentalist, Frith has situated himself for more than thirty years in the area where rock music and new music meet. Co-founder of the British underground band Henry Cow (1968-78), he moved to New York in the late seventies and came into contact with many of the musicians with whom he's since been associated, for example John Zorn, Ikue Mori, Tom Cora, Zeena Parkins, and Bob Ostertag. In 1974, he released "Guitar Solos," a collection of improvisations now recognized as a landmark in the history of the electric instrument. He is currently Professor of Composition at Mills College in Oakland, California.

As with Colvin's previous installation (The Colony Room, New Langton Arts 2008), socializing is encouraged, and with that in mind our resident mixologist will be concocting two new cocktails, "Tangerine Dream" and "Sgt. Pepper's" to add to our specially commissioned list. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club attire is welcome!
