Theatre of Yugen offers a benefit concert featuring some of their many exciting Bay Area musical collaborators. Included in the concert are composers/musicians of past, present, and (believe it or not!) future productions. Musician Wendy Gilmore, who worked with Theatre of Yugen in the 1990’s, opens the event with works for solo Shakuhachi; Composer and clarinetist Dan Plonsey, who brought his talents to the Company’s emblematic large-scale work The Cycle Plays (2007), gathers his ensemble for the full score of Long Day’s Journey Into Night; and musicians from Theatre of Yugen’s upcoming international collaboration Dogsbody (commissioned by Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, October 2009) guitarist Ava Mendoza, electronic and electroacoustic musician Jake Rodriguez http://soundcrack.net, and the self described ‘voracious musician’ Liz Allbee finish off the event.

This concert will help raise funds for Theatre of Yugen’s upcoming research trip to Bosnia and Sarajevo to further research and develop Dogsbody. In addition, the Company has been invited to perform as part of the 36th INFANT – International festival of alternative and new theater Festival in Novi Sad, Serbia. This is the first time Theatre of Yugen will travel to Europe to perform their experimental production Pretty (The Cycle Plays, 2007), teach workshops and participate in cultural exchange activities.
