Steve Roden and Loren Chasse

The Gift

$10, $8 members, $5 students

Steve Roden and Loren Chasse will create a live sound performance using a variety of humble and battery operated electronics; ancient, broken, and modified acoustic instruments; and found objects such as stones, paper, and sand. While the performance will be improvised together, each artist has prepared a graphic score for the other that will remain unseen until the performance begins - hence the title, "The Gift".

Loren Chasse is a San Francisco-based musician , sound artist, field recordist and teacher, most notable for his association with Jewelled Antler and his work with Thuja, The Blithe Sons, The Child Readers, Of and many others. He has been called "one of the most important international artists working in the areas of environment and sound." Chasse is also the Director of Education of the sound arts collective 23five, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the awareness of sound in the public arena.

Steve Roden is a visual and sound artist from Los Angeles. Roden has been exhibiting his visual and sound works since the mid 1980's and has had numerous solo and group exhibitions internationally, including Susanne Vielmetter LA; Centre Georges Pompidou Paris; The San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art, The Hammer Museum LA and The Museum of Contemporary Art EMST, Athens. Roden has performed his soundworks at internationally including at Serpentine Gallery London; SF MOMA, Walker Art Center, Minneapolis as well as performance tours of Brazil and Japan. He has also released over 20 cds of audio works on labels worldwide.
