On Saturday April 11, 2009 and Sunday, May 17th 2009, at 8pm the ROOM chamber series continues with two shared concerts. In the spirit of last summer’s ROOM series, which featured percussionists (Batterie!), cellists (Low Bows), zithers & harps (117 Strings) and voices (Mouth!), this spring’s offering features an evening of bassists and an evening of flautists who will play separately, together, and with host Pamela Z (on voice and electronics.) Part of the thrust of this series is to present artists with adventurous and diverse approaches (who, prior to this, may or may not have been fully familiar with each other’s work) together in intimate evenings full of variety and surprises. These two upcoming concerts will not disappoint.

TRIPLE BASS (4/11/09)
Three versatile contrabassists: Lisle Ellis whose three decades of work spans Cecil Taylor to Matmos, Damon Smith whose flexible improvisational language is based in the American jazz avant garde movement and European non-idiomatic free improvisation, and Ashley Adams whose contemporary classical oeuvre includes groundbreaking work with enhanced instruments and intelligent computer systems, all play solo sets. Pamela Z will join them for duos and/or ensemble work. (buy tickets now)

Cost: $10

BREATHING is a movement from Carbon Song Cycle (a inter-media chamber work by composer/performer Pamela Z and visual artist Christina McPhee). The work was originally written for voice & electronics, bassoon, viola, cello, percussion, and tape. This is a solo version performed by the composer (with just voice, processing, and tape), recorded at a 3/13/2014 duo concert with Joan La Barbara as part of the 2014 ROOM Series. Pamela Z is using a gesture controller (designed and built by Donald Swearingen). © 2013 Last Letter Music (ASCAP)
