On Saturday April 11, 2009 and Sunday, May 17th 2009, at 8pm the ROOM chamber series continues with two shared concerts. In the spirit of last summer’s ROOM series, which featured percussionists (Batterie!), cellists (Low Bows), zithers & harps (117 Strings) and voices (Mouth!), this spring’s offering features an evening of bassists and an evening of flautists who will play separately, together, and with host Pamela Z (on voice and electronics.) Part of the thrust of this series is to present artists with adventurous and diverse approaches (who, prior to this, may or may not have been fully familiar with each other’s work) together in intimate evenings full of variety and surprises. These two upcoming concerts will not disappoint.

PIPES (5/17/09)
New York flautist Jane Rigler known for her innovations in new flute performance techniques and unique musical vocabulary, will perform a new work for flutes, electronics, and interactive video, and the Bay Area’s flautist/performance artist Polly Moller who composes and improvises on flute and bass flute will premiere her new piece, "Three of Swords" (the score for which will be available for purchase at the concert). Each will play solo and Pamela Z will join them for duos and an ensemble finale. (buy tickets now)

Cost: $10

BREATHING is a movement from Carbon Song Cycle (a inter-media chamber work by composer/performer Pamela Z and visual artist Christina McPhee). The work was originally written for voice & electronics, bassoon, viola, cello, percussion, and tape. This is a solo version performed by the composer (with just voice, processing, and tape), recorded at a 3/13/2014 duo concert with Joan La Barbara as part of the 2014 ROOM Series. Pamela Z is using a gesture controller (designed and built by Donald Swearingen). © 2013 Last Letter Music (ASCAP)
