****FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE****
June 30, 2009
WHAT: 13th Annual Mission Creek Music and Arts Festival
WHEN: San Francisco and Oakland venues – Friday, July 10, through Saturday, July 25
ABOUT: Mission Creek Productions is pleased to announce the 13th season of San Francisco’s beloved Mission Creek Music and Arts Festival.
This year, the festival will present such varied artists as Ann Magnuson, Evangelista, the Oh Sees, Extra Action Marching Band, Jessie Evans, and Ty Segall with its renowned focus on local musicians and performers. Film, dance, art, and multimedia programs will be featured in a variety of Bay Area venues, both big and small.
In addition to its experimental music and performance series, Collision, at the Lab, and global music-spanning series, Convergence, at various Oakland and S.F. venues, the festival will also present is first free, all-ages, outdoor concert at McLaren Park’s Jerry Garcia Amphitheater on July 18. L.A.’s Dead Meadow will headline the show that will otherwise showcase local rock, folk, and pop performers such as Kelley Stoltz, the Moore Brothers, and Leopold and His Fiction. L.A.’s Devon Williams and the Bahamas’ Xoel Lopez will also appear.
The complete lineup follows. Stay tuned for updates, and visit www.mcmf.org for further information.
BACKSTORY: MCMAF is an annual collaborative effort presented by a consortium of local independent concert promoters, musicians, artists, filmmakers, dancers and multimedia performance artists. Through this forum, Mission Creek strives to foster community among local Bay Area artists, showcase emerging artists and musicians, and bring innovative and diverse programming to a wider audience.
Notable performers who have performed at the Mission Creek Music and Arts Festival in the past include Deerhoof, Vincent Gallo and Sean Lennon, Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom, Dirty Projectors, YACHT, Jolie Holland, the Gowns, Comets on Fire, the Dodos, Acid Mothers Temple, Kid 606, Lucky Dragons, Yellow Swans, Gary Higgins, Jackie O-Motherfucker, I Am Spoonbender, the Coachwhips, Subtle, and Blectum from Blechdom – proof that the grassroots event’s volunteer curators have genuine knack for picking the intriguing emerging performers in the Bay Area and beyond, at critical moments in their artistic development.
Mission Creek, a fiscally sponsored project of Intersection for the Arts, was founded in 1996 by local Bay Area musician and artist Jeff Ray. Until Mission Creek, there was no known festival that promoted independent Bay Area musicians and artists. Now in its 13th year, the festival has grown tremendously in size and attendance, from a one-day event with eight bands and an audience of approximately 100 to a multi-day event with up to 180 acts, serving an audience of approximately 5,000.
