The Art of the Duo - Complex Stories, Simple Sounds

A unique pairing of two distinct duos with identical instrumentation (piano & clarinet) both of which are known for their broad, contemporary jazz vocabulary and inventive improvisations, as well as their exploration of their instruments through innovative technique. "Complex Stories, Simple Sounds" is a collaboration between one of Syria’s rising stars, clarinetist and composer Kinan Azmeh, and Sri Lankan-born, innovative pianist and composer Dinuk Wijeratne, that fuses elements of traditional Arabic and Southeast Asian musical vocabularies with classical and jazz sounds. Myra Melford, described by the San Francisco Chronicle as "the most gifted pianist/composer to emerge from jazz since Anthony Davis," and Ben Goldberg, whom John Zorn has called "one of the greatest clarinetists I have ever heard," team up to present material from their upcoming CD.
