28th San Francisco Jazz Festival Presents Steve Lehman Octet
Alto saxophonist Steve Lehman is based in Brooklyn, where he studied with Jackie McLean and went on to work in the U.S. and Europe with Anthony Braxton (in the Ghost Trance Ensemble), Michelle Rosewoman, Mark Dresser, Vijay Iyer, Meshell Ndegeocello, Oliver Lake and the collective trio Fieldwork. While Lehman has performed with small groups that allow him to stretch out and display his strikingly original ideas on alto, he is also an innovative arranger and composer who has written for large orchestras, chamber ensembles, and the octet format.
