Eric Marshall
upright and electric bass
Eric Marshall plays upright and electric bass in jazz and improvised music groups. Initially a trumpet player, Eric studied with Rich Bice and developed a love of swing and big band music. He subsequently took up electric bass and began performing in the burgeoning San Francisco and Los Angeles underground music scenes. Upon returning to SF Eric has devoted himself to the study of upright bass and has been actively performing jazz and free music.

Eric has led his own groups and performs regularly with Eddie Gale, Valerie Mih, The CMC Orchestra and other Bay Area groups. He will be performing in the orchestra for the Shotgun Player's production of the Three Penny Opera.

Eric has studied jazz with Mark Kennedy and Chris Poehler, classical bass with Kristen Zoernig of the Philharmonia Baroque, and free music with Damon Smith. He has participated in workshops with Ken Filiano, Drew Gress and Ralph Alessi, studied at The Jazz School in Berkeley, and is a member of the International Society of Bassists.
