Bryan Day invented instruments
Ernesto Díaz-Infante acoustic-electric mandolin, objects
Utility Spirits collects two improvised performances: the 20th Annual Day of Noise event on KZSU 90.1 FM at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, along with a second session at Clamorworks, Bryan’s home studio in San Pablo, California.
The resulting soundscapes were created with the following instruments:
Bryan performed using his tabletop set-up of invented instruments featuring amplified measuring tapes, a MIDI-FM radio, tunable instruments built with carbon-fibre rods, extension springs, and feedback-resonating electromagnets that are applied to any of the metal components.
I played an acoustic-electric mandolin with various objects, such as an e-writer, guitar pick, ball hex screwdriver, bag of marbles, mini fan, AM/FM pocket radio, 'Pickaso' guitar bow, wire brush, glass guitar slides, Tibetan singing bowl mallet, psaltery bow, marimba mallets, rat tail comb, EBow, chopstick, stainless steel scourer, and a small Tibetan bell.
I hope you enjoy listening to our spontaneous collaborative compositions.
