آبـان (Aban), by Sholeh Asgary
Co-released by crystalline morphologies + Sming Sming, Release date: October 4, 2024
Released as digital and limited edition cassette, each composition in Sholeh Asgary’s electro-acoustic album آبـان Aban moves the listener through a series of unpredictable atmospheres, where tonal and sonic events erupt from sustained and reverberating textures. The album’s pulsating colors are punctuated by shifting timbres, moments of silence, and Asgary’s voice, which appears both human and ghostly—fragments of wailing and singing emerge from an adjacent world. Informed by Iranian cosmologies, آبـان Aban is engrossing and gratifying with its myth-making and spatial invention, created as a regenerative form of resistance.
