The John & Alice Coltrane Home is bringing new life to the house where the Coltranes created some of their most transformative and groundbreaking work.

As restoration moves forward, the Home is being reimagined as an immersive space for music, workshops, and community that carry their legacy into the present moment.

Sita Michelle Coltrane is a vocalist, composer, and Artistic Director of the John & Alice Coltrane Home in Dix Hills, New York.

Born in Paris, France, her immersion in music began at an early age with violin, viola, and clarinet lessons as well as singing devotional music at the Ashram founded by her mother Alice Coltrane Turiyasangitananda. Michelle began traveling the world in her mid-20s, living in Japan while performing, composing, and DJing.

She continues as a radio host, a touring and recording musician, and a presenter of educational oral history programs furthering the legacy of her family.

In a single, magical evening, Zenefit 2026 will bring together experimental musicians, poets, historians, and spoken-word and visual artists for an immersive night of live performance and unexpected collaboration. Psychedelic folk, improvisational soundscapes, beat poetry, meditative spoken word, and a liquid light show—all set against the ornate backdrop of the Great American Music Hall.

All proceeds support San Francisco Zen Center and the Tassajara Fire Recovery Fund, helping sustain the future of practice and community at Tassajara.

John Zorn, Dave Lombardo, John Medeski

In August 2023, at one of several celebrations of his 70th birthday, Zorn unveiled a new power trio, Awakening Ground, that proved age does not mean any loss of edge. He linked with longtime collaborator John Medeski of the great jazz-jam band that took his name and Dave Lombardo, the Slayer drummer who helped define the sound of heavy metal and worked with Zorn around the turn of the century. Their debut at San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall was all explosion, from a sax-and-drums outburst that overran an opening Medeski organ drone to subsequent whirling organ runs that seemed to spin Zorn and Lombardo into an instrumental tizzy. A defining feature of Zorn’s work during his dauntless decades is the magic that can happen when great players are goaded into unexpected contexts—Awakening Ground is a testament to that idea, to letting three instrumental greats tear into a few loose pieces and one another for an hour. They bring that beautiful racket to Knoxville for a very rare appearance.
