On Friday, October 24 at 8:00pm, Tom's Place presents

Kevin Corcoran (percussion)/Jason Kahn (voice) duo
Matt Ingalls, solo clarinet

I think we have an excellent show lined up for Friday, featuring the stellar international improvising duo of Bay Area percussionist Kevin Corcoran and Zürich-based vocalist Jason Kahn. The festivities will be opened by a solo clarinet set by Oakland's own Matt Ingalls.

Kevin and Jason have an album out, recorded at the late, lamented Mosswood Sound Series (curated, coincidentally, by Matt):

Here for your amusement and edification are their canned biographical exegeses:

Jason Kahn is a New York-born, Zürich-based artist renowned for his work in electroacoustic improvisation. Utilizing a wide range of instruments and expressive means -- including drums, voice, synthesizers, and field recordings -- he could be considered a true aural polymath, deeply committed to the exploration of sound in all its forms. His career spans more than three decades of solo and collaborative projects, with over 100 releases to his name.

Kevin Corcoran is a percussionist and sound artist whose work engages with sonic material across a multiplicity of domains, using a variety of approaches such as improvised performance, field recordings and sound installations. A long-time resident of the Bay Area, he is a stalwart of the regional artistic community and has organized events such as the ReSound concert series on Mare Island.

Reviled for his "shapeless sonic tinkering" by the Los Angeles Times, oakland musician Matt Ingalls is a composer, clarinetist, concert producer, and computer music programmer. Often incorporating elements of improvisation, his music is heavily influenced by his long involvement in computer music. His composerly solo improvisations explore extended clarinet techniques that interact with the acoustic space, often as combination tones. Matt is the founder and co-director of sfSound, a new music series, ensemble, and internet radio station devoted to new ideas and traditions of experimental music, performance art, live electronic music, Bay Area composition, and the various facets of contemporary improvisation.
