BASIC is short for the Bay Area Structural Improvisers Coalition. BASIC is dedicated to the dissemination of information regarding the performance, recording, production, and publishing of structural improvised music. All kinds of improvisers are welcome, from jazz musicians to dancers to "free" improvisers. We will try to serve as a clearinghouse of information regarding a number of subjects, including how to release your own recordings, recording techniques, grants for funding tours or projects, publicity, etc. BASIC is also committed to helping heretofore unknown improvisers and composers an opportunity to connect and interact with their peers in the Bay Area. We will be supporting concerts at 1502 8th Street from time to time, and we hope to undertake an Improvised Music Festival later this year. Other future plans include a lecture series by performers on their music and ideas, and workshop and/or school clinics in improvised music.
