The Supplicants

Get tickets

Saxophonists David Boyce, Richard Howell, bassist David Ewell, and drummer Sameer Gupta start from scratch for each performance, channeling their inspiration into freely improvised musical moments. The Supplicants have been sculpting their unique sound for over 25 years, starting in 1999 in San Francisco. Their concerts have been consistently unforgettable musical experiences.

Richard Howell: winds, percussion
David Boyce: winds
David Ewell: bass
Sameer Gupta: drums

“The Supplicants has left me radiant, fulfilled in the way only the most profound spiritual encounters can. Composed of some of the Bay Area’s most accomplished jazz musicians…the band soars with the fiery grace of A Love Supreme-era Coltrane.” – Jonathan Zwickel, SF Bay Guardian

“The level of emotion with which they play is so deep, so personal, and the energy so pure that it is almost as if existence, or being itself, creeps most surprisingly yet receptively into our souls.” —Drew Foxman, All About Jazz

Gautam Tejas Ganeshan Residency

Feb 12, 13, 14

Gautam Tejas Ganeshan is on a fascinating, in-depth musical journey - one which continues until this very moment, and whose nature is well described by a name, from nearly twenty years ago, of an installation he once sang for: *Enter the Center* ( … which somebody watched from a bathtub, and while unloading the instruments for which he also had to change a flat tire.) Since then, he has brought "new music from an old tradition" (SFJAZZ) to the SF Museum of Modern Art, the Asian Art Museum (SF), the UC Berkeley Art Museum, the Headlands Center for the Arts, and much more - and has been called upon to guest-lecture and teach at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Stanford Jazz Workshop, UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz, and elsewhere.
