Classical Revolution
Classical Revolution is a collective of musicians dedicated to performing high-quality chamber music in non-traditional and accessible settings. Founded in 2006 at the Revolution Cafe in San Francisco, the movement's mission is to dismantle the barriers often associated with classical music, bringing it "to the people" in cafes, bars, and other community spaces.
By fostering a casual and intimate atmosphere, Classical Revolution re-imagines the concert experience, attracting new audiences and engaging them in the beauty of chamber music up close. Musicians involved range from conservatory students to seasoned professionals from major orchestras, all united by a passion for sharing music in a fresh, immediate way. The organization's unprecedented success has sparked the creation of dozens of chapters across the United States, Canada, and Europe, turning a local San Francisco movement into a worldwide phenomenon.

Sound Alchemy: David Boyce & Sameer Gupta
David Boyce (Saxophones, Electronics) & Sameer Gupta (Tabla, Drumset)
Prepare for an auditory journey that transcends genres and time! Oakland venue, WyldFlowr Arts, is honored to kick off a spectacular 3-day residency for master percussionist Sameer Gupta with an electrifying duo set alongside his long-time collaborator, saxophonist and Bay Area icon, David Boyce. This is far more than a concert—it's a high-energy conversation between two of the most inventive minds in modern improvised music.
The Cosmic Connection
Sameer Gupta, a globally renowned artist who simultaneously masters the American jazz drumset and North Indian classical tabla, is the brilliant force. His work is a beautiful bridge, melding the rhythmic complexity of raga with the spontaneous fire of avant-garde jazz.
Joining him is the inimitable David Boyce, co-founder of the avant-jazz powerhouse Broun Fellinis and a spiritual core of the Bay Area music scene. Boyce, on saxophone and bass clarinet, doesn't just play instruments—he wields a spectrum of sounds, incorporating Moog synth, electronic effects, and live beats to create deep, textural soundscapes.
The pairing of Boyce and Gupta is a masterclass in organic fusion. They cut their teeth together as members of the spiritually charged power trio, The Supplicants, and their collaboration has spanned decades, culminating in projects like Kosmic Renaissance. Their history means their musical telepathy is profound: Boyce’s soaring, melodic improvisations dance over Gupta’s intricate, multi-layered grooves, seamlessly weaving together the worlds of Hindustani rhythm and free jazz improvisation.

Originally from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, his relationship with music grew through exploring various instruments beginning with the voice, then the piano, followed by the bass guitar, and finally the drum set with little detours in the world of percussion and forays with the guitar. Chris’s formal education includes undergraduate training in Jazz Studies and Secondary Education, graduate study in the fields of Philosophy and Sociology of Music Education and Theological and Liturgical Studies, and doctoral work in Educational and Interdisciplinary Leadership.
His compositions take inspiration from jazz musicians such as Ralph Towner, Pat Metheny, Bill Evans, Jack DeJohnette, Brad Turner, Chris Gestrin, and Chris Tarry as well as disparate genres including Cuban Timba, Original Pilipino Music, British Progressive Rock, and Gregorian Chant. All of these seemingly disparate disciplines, inspirations, and interests help to inform the music that he makes. He has discerned that the core purpose of his music is to explore the intersections of his identity and upbringing, while combining these into musical conversations with his current experiences and curiosities. He currently divides his time between creating music, developing high school students into compassionate human beings, and working on defeating his addiction to improvising excessively in the saddest of all keys … D minor.

The 3-day
Chris Trinidad
Residency's Grand Finale!
Chris Trinidad
's Chroma Tonic brings together musicians from wildly divergent backgrounds in order to make unique sounds and unusual music. Drawing inspiration from ambient music pioneers Brian Eno and Robert Fripp, the avant-garde progressive rock of Tu-Ner, the adventurous electric jazz experimentation of early 70s Miles Davis,
Chris Trinidad
's Chroma Tonic blends these explorations with the influences of the members of the group. Alex Heigl plays textured and looped guitars, Cy Thompson brings an array of Afro-Caribbean percussive elements, Scott Oshiro performs on flute and programs the quantum electronic improvised live interactions, while
Chris Trinidad
holds down the foundation on bass guitar and synth bass. The concluding evening of the residency is also the debut performance of this project.

Putting together 3 creative forces to one end goal: dig deep, jump in the pocket, be
creative, invite the audience in, and have a blast doing it. There’s a long history of
saxophone bass, and drum trios. We carry that torch with the idea of bringing our vibe
to the concept. From our own compositions with a lot of improv, to groove to free
playing, to some interesting cover songs, and everything in between. Hold on to your
hat! It’s going to be a fun ride.
