Thomas Dimuzio will be playing in quadraphonic sound with his Buchla 200e modular system in tandem with signal processing and his custom textural looping environment.

Thomas Dimuzio is a San Francisco–based composer and sound artist known for his pioneering use of live sampling and his performative approach to modular synthesis. Active since the late 1980s, he developed early real-time sampling systems that treat sound as a mutable, evolving material—captured, transformed, and reintroduced during performance. His work collapses distinctions between composition and improvisation, studio and stage.

Dimuzio’s practice blends sampling, synthesis, feedback, field recordings, and collaborator inputs into interactive electronic ecosystems. In recent years, he has focused extensively on Buchla modular systems, presenting immersive, spatialized concerts and the ongoing performance series Sculpting Electric. His music has been released internationally on labels including RéR Megacorp, RRRecords, Asphodel, Sonoris, and Gench, and he has collaborated with artists such as Chris Cutler, Fred Frith, Negativland, Matmos, and Alan Courtis. He has performed widely across North America and Europe in concert halls, museums, and experimental venues.

Jason Kao Hwang's Human Rites Trio

Jason Kao Hwang - violin/viola
Ken Filiano - bass
Andrew Drury - drum set

With origins reaching back to the Asian Arts Movement and New York Loft scenes of the 1970s, and work in ensuing decades in Jazz, opera, film, and with artists such as Henry Threadgill, Anthony Braxton, Butch Morris, Wadada Leo Smith, Pauline Oliveros, and Tomeka Reid, Jason Kao Hwang has constructed a uniquely multi-faceted legacy in American music. For this rare trip to the Bay Area the award-winning violinist explores improvised and intricately composed sonic landscapes with his stellar Human Rites Trio. With long-time collaborators, Andrew Drury and Ken Filiano, as a trio they create great artistic synergy, and take the audience along for a journey of musical discovery.

…this is heavy, profound music. - Philip Freeman, Downbeat Magazine

Secret Sidewalk

Founded in 2010, Secret Sidewalk is comprised of Bay Area natives from a variety of musical backgrounds, yielding a distinctive sound that echoes Bay Area hip-hop, jazz, and psychedelic undertones. The group features unorthodox instrumentation: saxophone, turntables, synthesizers, and drums, all modulated live with effects to create a sound that is both lush and gritty.

The sophomore release of the band’s imprint, Primal Dap Sound, picks up the thread left by their inaugural release, “Primal Dap”.

“Sutro Sound Bath” features the group’s continued experimentation with chance and sonic textures, deftly adapted to the unique circumstances of the current times.

Alex Abalos: Sampler and Electronics
Mike Boo: Turntable
Michael Reed: Drums, Electronics
Marcus Stephens: Saxophone, Electronics

Nathan Clevenger Trio + 2 | Danishta Rivero & Kasey Knudsen

Oakland musicians Nathan Clevenger (keyboards/percussion), Jordan Glenn (drums/percusssion), and Cory Wright (clarinets/tenor sax) share a long and entwined history of collaboration across various projects, including Wiener Kids, the Nathan Clevenger Group, and Fellow Hominids. Formed in 2021, the trio has released 3 albums and initiated a series of collaborations with guest artists, including Kasey Knudsen, Crystal Pascucci, Phillip Greenlief, Danishta Rivero, and Marié Abe.

Working from (and against) Clevenger’s enigmatic compositions and utilizing the multi-instrumental flexibility of each player, the trio (and guests) perform long-form pieces filled with modular elements, extreme dynamic contrast, and textural detail. For tonight’s performance, the trio is joined by longtime collaborators Danishta Rivero (voice/electronics) and Kasey Knudsen (alto sax).
