Derk Richardson is a longtime Bay Area music journalist, travel writer, magazine editor, and radio programmer. His writing has appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco Bay Guardian, East Bay Express, DownBeat, The Absolute Sound, and other publications. He served as an editor at Acoustic Guitar, Oakland, and AFAR magazines, and until 2023, hosted “The Hear and Now” on KPFA 94.1 FM in Berkeley.

Sameer Gupta is a first-generation Indian-American musical artist, educator, and entrepreneur. He is one of the few percussionists simultaneously representing the traditions of Black American jazz on the drum set and Indian classical music on tabla, creating a unique musical sound which combines traditional and contemporary improvisation styles. While living in Brooklyn, he co-founded the artist collective Brooklyn Raga Massive as well as Raga Kids, an Indian music education program for toddlers. He currently serves as the director of RootStock Arts in Oakland, and has collaborated with a multitude of great artists, including 2019 NEA Jazz Master recipient Reggie Workman, Jon Batiste, Ron Carter, Harry Belafonte, Brandee Younger, Casey Benjamin, and more.
