Scottish Electronics musician Drew McDowall was a key member of the legendary COIL group from the UK in the latter half of the 1990s whose seminal ritual drone masterwork "Time Machines" was re-performed by him in SF and overseas in 2018.
McDowall now returns to the Bay with an adventurous live project based on “A Thread, Silvered and Trembling” his newest June release on Dais which transforms Drew’s mood driven vision of a displaced neo-industrialized music as enigma and invocation into a summoning of shrouded strings, shaken shudders, and disembodied voicings.  More...

Sult

From Norway and Oakland, an acoustic trio of guitar, contrabass, and bass drum. Over the past 15 years Sult has created a thrillingly dynamic and visceral sound world, forging a musical unity while also asserting the radically unique languages of its three core members. Their raw acoustic improvisations crackle with an energy that makes indirect communications reverberate on a cosmic level. Their music evokes natural phenomena; storms, landslides, tectonic frictions, lightning splitting forests of trees. Sult exists on the outer edges of free improvisation and the avant-garde, echoing the multi-layered, sonic intensity of AMM's Crypt era as well as Mauricio Kagel's most physical/textural work and the existential force of Helmut Lachenmann's "instrumental musique concrète".  More...

Wed 7/17 7:30 PM Brava Theater [2781 24th St, San Francisco, CA 94110]
After his father’s unexpected death, pianist Adam Tendler used his inheritance, a wad of cash received in a parking lot, to begin a commissioning project inviting a broad spectrum of sound artists and composers to create new piano works exploring the idea of ‘inheritance’ itself. Woven into one intimate program, these pieces tell a universal story of lineage, loss, and place, and become a meditation on confronting our past while moving forward into the future. The performance will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at 7:30 pm at the Brava Theater in San Francisco’s Mission District.  More...
