Karry Walker ~ Vegan Butcher ~ Surplus 1980

CD Release of the eponymous Vegan Butcher album, the six-song, nine-note, monumuental slow-core music of John Shiurba

Featuring sets from the remarkable Karry Walker (Ultralash) and comrades-in-anxiety Surplus 1980 (Moe! Staiano)

About Vegan Butcher:
Playing songs only written in January and only using a nine-note scale, Vegan Butcher features a power trio of composer-lyricist John Shiurba (Molecules, Eskimo) on guitar, Wil Hendricks (Califone) on bass, and Suki O'Kane (Thingamajigs Performance Group, She Mob) on drums, with elegiac vocals provided by Val Esway (Loretta Lynch, El Mirage). Shiurba is known for his work in art rock, contemporary composition and noise. Through the use of extended techniques and unusual preparations, he expands the traditional sound range of the guitar, producing stunning, often unrecognizable results. Vegan Butcher takes all of its lyrical content from John's early morning somniloquism.

About Karry Walker:
Karry Walker's Ultralash is a music project based in Oakland CA, that's equal parts enigmatic porch folk and ambient trip-hop collage. Her 2015 release A River Listless is a dark, handsome dollop of dour core and redemption

About Surplus 1980:
Surplus 1980 is a Bay Area post-punk rock band fronted by former Sleepytime Gorilla Museum percussionist, Moe! Staiano. Built on the foundation laid by instrumental no-wave post-rock band, Mute Socialite, Surplus 1980's music is a thicker brew with an out-jazz touch and more than a dash of punk ferocity. This show will also mark the final performance live of bassist Steve Lew.
