Steve Lacy's The Wire

In 1975, Steve Lacy made his first trip (of many) to Japan, where he recorded his album The Wire, a Japan-only release that's always been hard to find in the US. Of course, now there's a fan upload on youtube. (Give it a listen, it's fabulous!)

On Wednesday May 31 at Tom's Place, an all-star sextet convened by Henry Kaiser will be covering The Wire. The sextet follows the instrumentation on the album, with ROVA's Bruce Ackley in the Lacy chair, Andrea Centazzo (a Tom's Place fave and former Lacy collaborator) on percussion, the inestimable Tania Chen on piano, Danielle DeGruttola on cello, and Henry Kaiser and Michael Manring on twin basses.

I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to this.
