TO….OBLIVION
TO....OBLIVION presents two California guitarists, San Francisco's Giacomo Fiore and Los Angeles' Alexander Elliott Miller in a program of music for electric guitar.
Giacomo Fiore performs three works that situate the electric guitar in dialogue with itself through looping and delaying processes: from the postminimal textures of Eve Beglarian until it blazes (2001), through Anthony Porter’s mercurial loops in hair of the thing that bit you (2011), to Danny Clay’s Turntable Drawing No. 16, with its ambiguous explorations of closed-groove record noises and dissolving guitar tendrils.
Alexander Elliott Miller’s “TO….OBLIVION: Historic Landmarks Around Los Angeles” is a suite for electric guitar, sound effects and video showing changing historic sites in LA of some social significance. Included in the suite are movements about LA’s first abandoned subway tunnel, a hotel where African American jazz artists were welcome to stay during segregation, the abandoned aqueduct constructed by Spanish settlers in 1781 which led to the growth of the city, and others.
