Tangents Guitar Extravaganza

An evening of instrumental guitar music and songs reflecting a variety of traditions and perspectives from the past hundred years. With David Tanenbaum, Ann Moss, Carrie Smith, Larry Polansky, Giacomo Fiore, and the SFCM guitar ensemble.

Join us for an evening celebrating the chameleon nature of contemporary guitar, featuring a wide range of chamber and ensemble music from the past hundred years. David Tanenbaum and Carrie Smith will accompany soprano Ann Moss in selected songs by Elliott Carter, Joni Mitchell, Dusan Bogdanovic, and Garry Eister. Bradly Pupa and Oskar Magnusson will present Alexandre Tansman’s recently-edited Sonatine for two guitars, a work originally composed as a solo piece in 1952. Electric guitarists Larry Polansky and Giacomo Fiore draw connections between folk music and hypermodernism with Ruth Crawford Seeger’s arrangements of American Folk Songs for Children, and Polansky’s own Fermentation #4 (after Charles Dodge). Finally, the SFCM guitar ensemble will present the world premiere of Chilean composer Javier Farias’s La Otra Voz for eight guitars, electric guitar, and electric bass.
